TRIBES: WE NEED YOU TO LEAD US
// April 30th, 2009 // Uncategorized
Sorry its been awhile since my last update/blog post but I think you’ll like the work we’ve been doing on my new site !
Everyone who wishes to become successful in our great profession should put something together similar. Static websites are so old school. Being able to dynamically display all of your blogs, pics and lifestreams in real time is definitely the direction you want to be heading.
In this update I wanted to bring your attention an incredible semi-new book by best-selling author Seth Godin called Tribes: We Need You to Lead Us.
You may have read The Purple Cow or more recently The Dip, two of Godin’s other best-selling books. If not pick them up as well ASAP because if there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years its that leaders are readers.
In his latest manifesto, Godin breaks new ground with his discussion of the fusion of leadership, creating movements, and marketing based on word of mouth.
Rest assured, it will have a profound impact on how you look at your life and this business.
Here’s what Seth has to say about the network marketing profession:
Network marketing works when it’s not about you. It works when it is about the customer. Not sort of about the customer as a way of helping you, not kinda about the customer when you imagine how they could act like you and become part of your downline. No, it works when it is generous and transparent and true.
If someone buys from you because they are a friend or because it’s easier than avoiding you, that’s not about the customer.
Here’s my dream for you: find a product and a price and a story that people choose to seek out. Discover a niche that people would miss if it disappeared. Offer an experience that’s about more than money, more than making a living and more than recruiting a new salesperson. When you bring joy and utility and trust to people (at a fair price), they’ll embrace you.
- Seth Godin (quoted from Networking Times)
Here’s a great quote from Tribes:
“Welcome to age of leverage. Bottom-up is a really bad way to think about it because there is no bottom. In an era of grassroots change, the top of the pyramid is too far away from where the action is to make much of a difference. It takes too long and it lacks impact. The top isn’t the top anymore because the streets are where the action is.”
- Seth Godin
Have a great week !
