Marrakesh, Morocco

Next its on to Marrakesh aboard Royal Moroccan Air.

We decided to stay at Le Palais Roule, an exquisite 20th century
palace turned hotel.

Our accommodations: La Tente Royale.

Here's Paloma inside our luxurious "tent". The "tent" had real silk lined cement walls and a huge air conditioner, but the roof was the real thing.

The rug that greets you upon entering... wouldn't want to run into this guy
when he was alive...

Taking a dip in the palatial pool...we had it all to ourselves.

Believe it or not this is the restaurant...

Check emails in the "lobby".

While there, of course you must purchase a famous Berber carpet. The entire process of buying and selling in Morocco is quite extraordinary, especially rugs. The sale is conducted over a nice cup of tea or coffee and you are encouraged to bargain. In fact not bargaining is an affront to their dignity. Needless to say, we did not leave empty-handed...

And did I mention the ornate table that we bought within the Old City from Said (sitting). This one will have to be shipped home.

The busy suuqs markets are a labyrinth of shops with everything you
can possibly imagine for sale.

We were invited for tea at the home of a local resident, Said.

Anyone want to go to Casablanca?

Here's what our "tent" looked like at night.

Relaxing before heading out for a night on the town. ..

Dining in style. Fruit anyone?

Dancing at Pacha, a world-class nightclub...

Sightseeing in the beautiful gardens....

In Marrakesh's famous square, Djema al-Fna exotic performers demonstrate the power of mind over matter. This particular performer drank an entire kettle of steaming hot water!

Our guide Abdelhai and I enjoying a local delicacy: escargot.

The next day we took a trip out to the countryside. Here's Mick Jagger's home, or at least one of them...

A grassless soccer-field. It is the desert after all...

2 boys hitch a ride on the back of our taxi. There are no traffic lights to speak of on the (extremely) narrow roads and you never knew what was in store for you around every corner...an adventure to be sure.

Some more sightseeing...the sights were spectacular. the attention to detail unparalleled.

Is this the place to rest or what?

An internet cafe, Moroccon-style...

Back at the palace though was where I decided to logon...

Enjoying our final "Le Palais Rhoul" breakfast in the gardens....

Our final stop was Milan, Italy, the fashion capital of the world.
